Chandra Prakash Joshi (born 4 November 1975), better known as C.P. Joshi, is an Indian politician and a two-time Member of Parliament from Chittorgarh Lok Sabha constituency since 2014. Currently, he is the state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Rajasthan which is testimony to his good work done during his past experience in several key state party positions. He is considered a mild mannered person, of an RSS background and with no particular allegiance to any faction. His work as Rajasthan BJP State President was appreciated by PM Modi in Udaipur in run up to the elections.

Political journey

Joshi is widely considered as popular, simple and soft-spoken Brahmin leader from Mewar region who showed leadership skills from an early age. He was also the Vice President, Student Union, Government Senior Secondary School, Chittorgarh.

He began his political journey with National Students' Union of India (NSUI) when he became vice-president from 1994 to 1996. Subsequently he joined the ABVP and rose through the ranks from Member of the Chittorgarh District Council (Zilla Parishad) in 2000.

He also held several positions from 2000-2005 listed as follows:

He was up-pradhan in Bhadesar Panchayat Samiti (2005-2010). He finally became State President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and eventually the State President of the Party Unit.

He was also the District President, Wrestling Association, Chittorgarh. He organised various sports competitions in Wrestling, Power Lifting, Badminton, Cricket, Kabaddi etc. at District and State level.

He played prominent role in setting up booth committee in the whole Chittorgarh district and implementing ‘one booth ten youth’ scheme across the District. He has been key in setting up all Morchas and Cell’s for the Bharatiya Janata Party at District level.

He was elected as Member of Parliament to the 16th Lok Sabha in 2014 and 17th Lok Sabha in 2019 from Chittorgarh Lok Sabha Constituency. He secured 9.79 lakh votes and his victory margin of 5.76 lakh votes is considered amongst the top 10 biggest margins of victory in 2019.

MP Joshi was given important organizational responsibility as Rajasthan State Vice President in 2020.

Work as Member of Parliament

Following are listed as his works as Member of Parliament, Chittorgarh:

  • For the development of the area, MP Joshi got a record compensation for farmers from the National Disaster Fund for crop damage and for the first time after independence, thousands of opium licenses were restored and many princely states made successful efforts to make a farmer-friendly policy.
  • Important works were done for the development of archaeologically protected sites such as forts and other ancient sites.
  • After independence, the works of gauge conversion, electrification, doubling, operation of new trains, container depot were done as historical gifts including the first new railway line.
  • With this, new flights were started from Udaipur airport to every corner of the country.
  • The speed of traffic has increased in the area through Six lane and Central Road Fund roads.
  • Passport offices were started in all the three districts of the parliamentary constituency, Udaipur, Chittorgarh and Pratapgarh.
  • In the field of tourism and culture, Chittorgarh fort and Krishnadham Shri Sanwaliya Seth temple were linked with the country's Swadesh Darshan scheme.
  • Opening of Naveen Kendriya Vidyalaya and Navodaya Vidyalaya was a major achievement in the field of education.
  • Along with this, a large part of the parliamentary constituency is a tribal-dominated area, where Maharana Pratap Battalion was established for the TSP area and the youth. Issued postage stamps for the great men of history, worked to strengthen communication facilities.

Along with this, he was always ready for the development of the area by getting the implementation of all the schemes run by the center very well in the parliamentary area. MP Joshi adopted the village Nagri under the “Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana” and worked for its development. He also prepared proposals for 149 development works.

In the 2019 elections, MP Joshi won by 5 lakh 76 thousand votes and is representing the parliamentary constituency of Chittorgarh in the Lok Sabha for the second time. In the year 2020, a target has been set to plant 5 lakh 76 thousand saplings in the parliamentary constituency by running a program for environment protection in the name of "Harit Parisar Abhiyan".

He is among the most active MPs in the Parliament with his parliamentary activity significantly higher than state and national averages. He was chosen to deliver the motion of thanks on the President's address in the house on February 8, 2023.

Personal life

He was born to Ramchandra Joshi and Sushila Joshi. He is married to Jyotsana Joshi since 22 April 2004 who works as tutor and costume designer, and has two children, one son and one daughter. He did his Bachelors of Commerce from Maharana Pratap Government Post-Graduate College affiliated to Mohanlal Sukhadia University.
